What's considered minority for getting into college?
I know that if you're racially part of a "minority," it's "easier" to get into college. Is Chinese a minority?
Are there any charts or tables on this?
Asians are not considered a minority in the U.S. Even though they only make up 4.4% of the U.S. population while Blacks make up 12.8% and Hispanics make up 14.8%.
What they mean by minority is under-represented groups. Asians make up around 8% to 10% of the college student population while blacks make up 7% to 9% and Hispanics make up 10% to 12% of the college student population in the U.S. Compare those percentages with the percentages of the overall population and you will see that Asians are way over-represented and Blacks and Hispanics are under-represented.
