3d street art
is there any dance auditions out there for me?
ok i'm 17 years old, i haven't had any dance lessons for the past 9 years
but i have been helping teach street and hip hop lessons, got an A in gcse dance, continuing with performing arts as A level and am choreographing the dances to out 6th form performance of A Chorus Line, i am aiming for a career in dance either performance of choreography and would love to get out there and go to some auditions, don't care if they're in a year or 2 but I'd love to get out there and have a go, last year just before i turned 16 i danced in a scene of the British musical, 3D, horror comedy film El Dorado (out in America... ment to be coming to England) and i loved it and want to do more things like it. do you know anything i could audition for or even a website i could keep an eye on.

You are going to totally hate my answer.
Professional dancers take dance class every day. Even on days of performance. That will be your competition. Anything less than 15 hours of class a week (year round) is considered recreational dance. That is your competition for work. 10% of the best trained dancers get work and of those only 10% can make a living at it. Most work is from word of mouth form choreographers who have used you or worked with you before. The professional dance world is small and closed off for the most part. For example.. I know someone who is dancing backup for Janet Jackson on tour. She was classically trained in ballet and modern dance. Her mom was in the Dance Theater of Harlem and her dad invented Pop and Lock. She also came in 4th on SYTYCD in America. Another dancer is touring with the musical West Side Story. He is a grad of Juilliard, worked with Aszure Barton (hottest contemporary choreographer going at the moment. Did a piece for American Ballet Theater this last season) and his letter of recommendation for Juilliard came from no other than Mikhail Baryshnikov. Most dancers in music videos and touring are classically trained dancers as well. You have to be able to what ever the choreographer needs. Your lack of training is going to be a huge handicap.
